[BadPanda042] Patrick Lee – Quittin’ Time
Many good things happening these days.
- We are proud to start a collaboration (as curator) with the Free Music Archive, hosted by the awesome independent and creative radio WFMU. This means Bad Panda (and all the Bad Panda artists) have now their own page with the complete catalog. There will be more.
- Plus, the kind Harold Walker from Netherlands sent his sweet Creative Commons licensed video for Happiness by Errnois (on BadPanda#27), thus have a look at it and celebrate the Creative Commons power.
- No office chart this time, just a lazy (but streamable) selection.
Finally, out today for your listening pleasure a feel-good-anthem for the summer “that sounds like Pete Rock and Four Tet fighting a squad of Beastie Boys instrumentals in some dark alley” meanwhile Lemon Jelly and Go! Team are having a pic-nic in the park.
This is Quittin’ Time by Patrick Lee from his 22th album “The Last Thing” (that you can curiously buy, download for free or pay-what-you want) released this year on his own label Twelve Tusk, on which he also released his side projects: Beauty Flash (electro) and The Beebs (indie rock) with his wife. Patrick seems also to find the time to play in a jazz trio, DJ around USA, teach piano lessons and take care of his daughter. Power of music.

Patrick, where do you live actually?
I live in a neighborhood called Washington Park in Denver, Colorado. Colorado was the 38th state to become part of the United States of America.
What is the last thing you ate?
The Whole Foods bacon and blue cheese potato salad. It is spicy and ridiculous.
Your addiction?
Anchovy-stuffed green olives and beer. And lately, the HBO show True Blood.
What do you collect?
I collect old vegetables in my refrigerator’s vegetable drawer, and Stella Artois bottle caps, which is a very dumb thing to collect, because they’re all identical. Fifteen years ago I was very devoted to collecting Mad magazines.
One quote?
“If you’re playing a poker game and you look around the table and can’t tell who the sucker is, it’s you.” – Paul Newman
One movie?
The Jerk
One book?
Travels With Charley – John Steinbeck
Which song do you listen to when you wake up?
I can’t say I’m involved with this one… I would like it to be “Soulful Strut” by Young Holt Unlimited, but that doesn’t mean it happens.
A song you wish you wrote yourself?
“Martha My Dear” by Paul McCartney
The song to be played at your funeral?
“Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr. or “One More Time” by Daft Punk. Hilarious.
A song for relaxing on a beach?
Pretentious answer: Second Movement, Concerto in G Major, Maurice Ravel. Real answer: “Mexico” by James Taylor.
One website?
http://kristophorhutson.blogspot.com – This is my friend Kris’ site. He’s an illustrator. And a damn fine one. Look into it.
Favourite venue?
The Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado. I have great memories of my old funk band opening up for everyone from De La Soul to Derek Trucks. We were never really big enough to headline.
Favourite concert?
Cornelius at the Fox Theatre in 2007. Mind? Blown.
Favourite place on earth?
This is like being on Inside The Actors Studio. I would say it’s hard to top being up in the mountains here in Colorado at my friend Donnie’s cabin. A few bachelor parties, bonfires, epic washer games, good dinners, snowmobile accidents, wounds, and a lot of music videos have happened up there. Plus he has these floating golf balls that are just addicting. There’s something to add to my addiction list: the floating golf balls at Donnie’s cabin.
Where would you wish to wake up tomorrow?
At my favorite place on earth.
And in the end, feel free to add anything else you want
I would just like to thank my parents – hi mom!
