[BadPanda059] CIVIL CIVIC – Lights On A Leash

with one comment

CIVIL CIVIC is a band: Aaron Cupples (guitar), Ben Green (bass) and a box of drum noises. Imagine Ratatat and Sonic Youth having a baby and rocking out in the manner of Holy Fuck covering Hüsker Dü. A beautiful mess.

Mixing jaggedly progressive post-punk guitar, jamming melodic fuzz bass and pummelling drum machine beats, delivered in a no-frills lo-fi-pop package, these Europe-based Australian instrumentalists have tapped their own original sound, emailing tracks back and forward, reconstructing and tweaking the others contributions, and minimising the possibility of rehearsal room punch-ups.

They are touring Europe right now (with 65daysofstatic, Ratatat, The Chap and more) and their debut, 1, one of the year’s best EPs was out on limited edition cassettes featured the mesmerizing ‘Less Unless’, the live version of which you can view below.

Lights On A Leash was mastered at Abbey Roads studios, and if you want to read the back story behind how they got the master vinyl printed, check out their own hilarious blog here.
