[BadPanda098] The Parish of Little Clifton – Septemberish 7″
The Parish of Little Clifton is a 19 years-old multi instrumentalist from Canada. Started as an acoustic folk project, within the last year he’s been working on electronic-based music, trying to keep the organic elements of real instruments by using samples.
After an EP on Cultus Vibes (Teen Daze’s label), Septemberish 7” is a taste of the LP – Portia – that will be released this fall and that will feature his sister, Hannah Flom, Teen Daze, Manitoulin and Bank Heist.
What The Parish of Little Clifton has become now is a way for me to be intimate and honest with myself. I have realized that once a piece of music is heard by another (especially listened to by another) it is no longer mine. For now that song is someone else’s to emote to. What “The Parish” is now, in some senses, is a world that i am sharing with other people. The songs that i write (especially in the lyrical ones) have very intimate connections to realities in my own life. So sometimes i will hide the vocals in the mix so that only i know what i am saying. That way when i play a song live or listen to it with friends, everyone else will familiarize themselves with the melody perhaps–or the mystery, all the while i am being reminding of some truth or reality that i have been opened to.
Taking inspiration from the summer-spots, these two songs are dedications to a very-present boyhood. Inspired by two lakes and the countless times i have found joy in their creation. “It’s Okay, Roseanne” brings about emotions that i can pinpoint to the very afternoon that i experienced them, jumping off cliffs into a semi-warm lake. “Echo Island” is a beat-heavy wash of hope and mystery that has very often visited me in the last few months as i prepare for the next season in my life.
