[BadPanda146] Super Magic Hats – By Myself

leave a comment »

Super Magic Hats is the electronic music project by Rob Masterton from Melbourne, Australia. Taking cues from a diverse and eclectic range of music, Super Magic Hats set about making music to dance to, that also makes sense as music, and that roams free from the shackles of dance music convention. Or possibly any music convention.

Super Magic Hats – By Myself [mp3]

Where do you live actually?
Melbourne, Australia

What is the last thing you ate?
Pretz with caramel sauce – it’s like do-it-yourself Pocky, you get a packet of sticks and a bag of sauce and make them yourself by squirting the sauce onto the sticks.

Your addiction?
I think it would have to be Curry Katsu Don.

What do you collect?
Memories and friendships

What sound or noise do you love ?
Traffic noise from motorways is something I find strangely relaxing. I think it’s because I lived for four years next to the M6 in England, which is normally pretty busy. If you don’t learn how to find it relaxing, you’d go mental.

What is your most recent extravagance?
They are normally around food…

What is freedom?

One movie?
La Haine

One book?
I don’t think it could ever just be one – I love books.

Where do you go to discover new music?
Blogs, especially East to West and Make Believe Melodies. I also still like going to record stores.

A song you wish you wrote yourself?
Perfume – Polyrhythm

A song for relaxing on a beach?
The MFA – The Difference It Makes

Your Sunday morning track?
Oscar + Martin – Recognise

What’s your definition of happiness?
It’s being surrounded by good people, I think. You can be happy in any pretty much any situation if you have good people around you.

One website?

What do you think about music industry nowadays?
The industry part is fucked but this is making the music part more interesting.

Favorite place on earth?
London, when it’s the middle of summer and the sun is out, there is nowhere in the world I’d rather be. I guess the rub is that the middle of summer doesn’t last long in London, and the sun isn’t out for that long.

Where would you wish to wake up tomorrow?
On a plane at the start of an adventure…
